Darkness or Light (Day 2)

Atop the Preacher’s Commentaries is a rare snapshot of my grandpa to whom the books once belonged.  He died in a tragic accident involving a tornado when my mom was only three years old.

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue… (Prov 6:16-17a ESV).

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge (II Peter 1:5 KJV).

“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor (Exodus 20:16 NKJV).

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction (Prov 1:7- ESV).

But evil people and impostors will flourish. They will deceive others and will themselves be deceived (II Tim 3:13 NLT).

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (II Tim 2:15 KJV).

Then I said, “O Sovereign Lord, their prophets are telling them, ‘All is well—no war or famine will come. The Lord will surely send you peace.’” 14 Then the Lord said, “These prophets are telling lies in my name. I did not send them or tell them to speak. I did not give them any messages. They prophesy of visions and revelations they have never seen or heard. They speak foolishness made up in their own lying hearts. 15 Therefore, this is what the Lord says: I will punish these lying prophets, for they have spoken in my name even though I never sent them. They say that no war or famine will come, but they themselves will die by war and famine! (Jer 14:13-15 NLT).

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness (Eph 6:14 KJV).

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain (Exodus 20:7 NKJV).

I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love your law (Psalm 119:163 ESV).

He shall seduce with flattery those who violate the covenant, but the people who know their God shall stand firm and take action. 33 And the wise among the people shall make many understand, though for some days they shall stumble by sword and flame, by captivity and plunder. 34 When they stumble, they shall receive a little help. And many shall join themselves to them with flattery, 35 and some of the wise shall stumble, so that they may be refined, purified, and made white, until the time of the end, for it still awaits the appointed time (Dan 11:32-35 ESV).

There is gold, and an abundance of jewels; but the lips of knowledge are a more precious thing (Prov 20:15 NASB).
