Paul in Athens

Standard

Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols (Acts 17:16 NASB).

The KJV translates this verse this way, “His spirit was stirred within him when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.”

Whether Paul felt a provocation to anger or grief or both because the glory due God alone was being given to idols, we don’t know for certain, but he was greatly troubled by what he encountered in Athens.
